Video Surveillance Seminar 2009
26-May-2009
Where logical Security meets Physical Security : part 2 Video Surveillance
LSEC (Leaders in Security) (http://www.lsec.be) and ECSA (European Corporate Security Association) (http://www.ecsa-eu.org) are organizing a seminar on
the current standing of video surveillance, and the future evolution of the market.
The purpose of this event is to present to security officers and related professionals an overview of
applications, installations, business cases, expertises and technological developments.
Preliminary Program
9.15h : Welcome & Registration
Welcome Coffee & Munchies provided by LSEC
9.45h : Introductions & Welcome Notes
Welcome notes and introduction to the theme by Ulrich Seldeslachts, CEO of LSEC
10.00h : Opening Keynote :
IP videosurveillance the Holy Grail in Security !?
The market conversion from analog to network video surveillance systems is a reality, but what are the real benefits for the users? Axis Communications will provide you with an overview of the IP penetration in Europe and the expected growth for the upcoming years. As the inventor of the first IP camera and global market leader in the network video market since then, Axis will explain the reasons behind the shift and why IP surveillance is a sustainable choice. To illustrate IP benefits, our speaker will present key applications developed for specific vertical segments : city surveillance, retail & transportation. Outline : 1. Network video surveillance penetration in Europe vs Belgium 2. Expected grow for IP-surveillance 3. 10 reasons to use IPThe introduction of network video has revolutionized video surveillance in many ways illustrated with vertical applications Conclusion : Is IP surveillance the holy grail?
by Coralie Roy and Caroline Jacob, Axis Communications
After a short discussion, and upon a couple of questions, Axis was so kind to provide attendees with the following guidance on legal requirements and limitations on installations of camera’s in Belgium and France. Le cadre légal de la vidéosurveillance en France et en Belgique.
10.50h : Experiences in the Belgian market
Niscayah, previously part of the Securitas group, has been already active in traditional videosurveillance installations and surveillance management for many years. In 2004, the company started moving into digital IP camera’s. What the use cases are for IP versus traditional CCTV installations, the costs and the benefits of one versus the other and some of the recent potential benefits from IP camera’s based upon actual situations in Belgium and some of Niscaya’s international experiences. Also implications on the management side and control room integration.
By Toon Eeckelhaert, CEO Niscayah Belgium
11.40h : Coffee Break & Networking
12.10h : Forensics & reality of digital imaging processing capabilities
Experiences from the field : increasingly police forces, also in Belgium are using video footage from surveillance cameras as information to help understand the setting of a crime scene, use it as evidence in case of an incident or to detect incidents happening in order to take corrective measures if needed. In some cases this requires forensics on video recorded on tapes, or DVR’s. However, we can all learn from some of the real life experiences, whereby a lot can be done to pro-actively improve the results. Also, what would be the expectations from lab to reality and what to expect next?
By Jan Vanmedegael, Federal Police Technical and Research Unit
13.00h : Lunch
14.00h : The changing camera’s what to look for and what might be missing still
“Intelligent video analysis...Security for a modern world” How could we get a concept in security and Videosurveillance ? How do you stop false alarms ? How about Intelligent Video Analytics ? Videosurveillance and Return On Investment ?
by Chris Vandebrouck, Videosurveillance Sony
14.40h : Agent technology : putting the video analysis on the edge ?
Content is King, and so will be video analysis! Besides using camera’s as a preventive measure, to simply record anything that happens, or to have someone watching 24/7; camera’s can be used more actively to react on activities happening in an image that could be indicators of an event. Especially in areas where only limited activities are happening, for perimeter security purposes, but also for business applications, video analytics are becoming a way to increase the value of the surveillance system, and to finally use what’s happening in the eye of the camera. Indicating some of the existing potential and also clarifying some of the future potential.
By Ariel Frishof, AgentVI
15.20h : Coffee Break
15.50h : Open Platform IP Video Surveillance : Enhancing Business Value
This topic will cover what Open Platform IP Video Surveillance is, the benefits, and the true value that it brings to the users of the technology. We examine how this Open Platform approach enhances the value of businesses, be it from a surveillance, monitoring or operational decision tool. The strengths and considerations of the Open Platform are also discussed from the Video Management Solution perspective, and in the context of the ecosystem. This includes the tie-in with Analytics, IP Cameras and IP Hardware, and the IP infrastructure required to create the solution. A case study will highlight some of the business values that can be derived out of an open platform and a management platform.
By Lawrence D. Guzman, Milestone
16.50h : Integrated Physical and Logical Security Solutions
The main supplier of the central intelligence of the internet: switching and routing, is moving into the world of Physical Security, clearly through video surveillance systems, but also in other applications. This is a clear player from the IP-world that is moving into the world of Security. Whilst others are moving from traditional systems slowly into the world of IP and IT, what drives Cisco to strongly choose for this field of interest? A new challenger in a new emerging market?
by Marty Knopert, Cisco
17.40h : Discussion, Closing Remarks & key learnings of the day
