Embedded security and Critical Infrastructure Protection come to their best in the developments of Smartgrids
23-Mar-2011
Over the last couple of years, we have been closely following the developments of vulnerabilties in embedded security, industrial control systems, critical infrastructures and other platforms.
Especially in control systems, 2010 was a major breakthrough year, that allowed for many people to see the first real threats appearing, where information systems could have an adverse effect on safety and security of human beings and the environment, because suddenly we could get access to such systems by breaking in.
Also in 2010 privacy issues on smart meters appeared in the Netherlands as well as vulnerabilities in the public transportation MiFare wireless technologies systems.
These activities should warn us for future potential threats in smart grid and future developments such as Energyville, both in Flanders and worldwide.
It also opens the opportunity for new developments and innovation.
