Opr-in versus Opt-out throughout Europe from 2011 and onwards
09-Jun-2010
According to Privacy International, the Privacy Regulations that are changing by May of next year will severely impact European companies, and business as the privacy regulation will be moving from an opt-out model towards and opt-in model. The current European spread model requires any company collecting information from users over the Internet is required to get a permit from the end user to collect his or hers information. The basic simple model being used is checkboxing that allowance with a pre-written disclaimer. That allows still for use of cookies and other information on the user. By changing this into an opt-in approach, the user will need to determine prior to collecting information about his activities that he agrees with the fact that the collecting party will be allowed to collect personal data from that user. We expect that this will be a major driver in securing information from end-users over the next couple of years.
