About the Members of the Board and the Committees

The following people are daily working very hard improving LSEC, the security market in Belgium and Europe in general and some of our events and activities.

  • Non-Executive Chairman of the Board : Dr. Prof. Bart Preneel, head of COSIC Research Group

    Bart Preneel received the Electrical Engineering degree and the Doctorate in Applied Sciences in 1987 and 1993 respectively, both from the K.U.Leuven (Belgium). He is currently full professor at the K.U.Leuven. He has been visiting professor at the Technical University of Denmark (2007), T.U.Graz in Austria (1997-2006), University of Bergen in Norway (1997-2001), Ruhr-Universität in Bochum (Germany) (2001-2002) and at the University of Ghent (1994-2002). He is a scientific advisor of Philips Research (the Netherlands). During the academic year 1993-1994, he was a research fellow of the EECS Department of the University of California at Berkeley. His main research interests are cryptology and applied information security.
    Bart's Motivation : LSEC is an excellent way for COSIC and Bart to be connected to the industry of IT security. Interested in innovative developments and research projects through LSEC. Bart's Contribution : Providing his wide range of contacts and relations to the benefit of LSEC, As expert in the field of Informatoin security, he is a true asset to LSEC on an international level for his strategic advise, link into the academic research and capable of providing resources for special projects.

  • Ulrich Seldeslachts is CEO of LSEC



    Ulrich joined LSEC late 2006, to support the organization in its future growth strategy. Prior to LSEC, he has started the European branch of Clearwire the North-American WiMAX operator, founded by Craig Mc Caw. Ulrich was responsible for the development of 7 broadband wireless operations throughout Europe. Ulrich has an experience in business and corporate development, and company innovation. He led the Venture Capital company of the Belgian incumbent telecoms operator between 1998 and 2003. He aims to use his experiences to solidify the further growth of Information Security business throughout Europe. Belgium is worldwide recognized for its teams of experts in Information Security because of technologies such as eID and AES-Rijndael.
  • Member of the Board : Vasco Data Security, represented by Bart Renard, Director Business Development


    Bart started by building the Customer Services department after which he switched to a sales position heading Vasco’s Enterprise Security Channel Sales in EMEA. Currently Bart is responsible for global business development activities for VASCO. These activities include Solution and Integration partners activities in the different Vasco markets being Banking- , Online Application and Enterprise security markets. Besides strong activities with these types of partners Bart is constantly looking for new partners and opportunities within the market that can expand its business. Prior to VASCO Bart has been active in different roles within AES Prodata (ERG Transport Systems) regarding automated fare collection systems for public transport for 5 years as well as 3 years in GTECH Corporation active in the (online) automated gaming industry for official state lotteries and gaming companies.
  • Member of the Board (independent director) : Dr. Marijke De Soete, Managing Director Security4Biz


    Dr. Marijke De Soete is currently working as an independent consultant. She established her own consultancy company Security4Biz in April 2004. She offers consultancy services on risk management and security for Corporate Governance, business development in ICT security and security aspects of systems and applications based on emerging technologies. Her customers during the past years include European Payments Council, NXP, Daimler Financial Services, Philips and PWC. Until the end of 2003 she was holding the position of Vice President Emerging Technologies Product Security with MasterCard International since its merger with Europay. Before she was Director of Payment System Security at Europay from 1995 till 2001. Her team was responsible for the security architectures of payment products based on magstripe and chip cards and the development and operation of supporting key management services and PKI. Before she was involved in research in mathematics and cryptography. She is more than 20 years involved in various standardization activities and is since 2004 Vice Chair of ISO/IEC JTC 1 SC27, IT Security. Marijke's motivation : As a strong believer in LSEC and its mission since its foundation, she was for the first time involved in its board since 2005. With more than 25 years of experience in ICT security in its broadest sense, from research over technical development and operations and last but not least business development, she was able to offer her expertise, vision and (international) network which she acquired over these years in support to the further development of LSEC. A further development of LSEC as a possible appropriate extension with new types of membership, maybe even internationally through associations; the further development and creation of new activities that are attractive and beneficial for its members both from a business and technical perspective while maintaining an appropriate level of innovation; its coordination and relation with governmental, industry and standardization bodies.

  • Member of the Board (independent director) : Patrick Slaets, Economical Advisor, Agoria ICT


    Responsible for the execution and follow-up of the business cycle, structural, strategic and statistical studies of the Belgian ICT-sector Responsible for actions on the use of ICT in the public sector. Responsible for actions utilizing Internet in society and economy (Allen op het Net, Internet voor Iedereen, peeceefobie, Nationaal Plan tegen Digitale Uitsluiting, roadshow eID, Digital Belgium,…). Actions on education and people sourcing in ICT-industry. Member steering committee Dienst Administratieve vereenvoudiging (DAV). Patrick is a Master of Arts in Economics from the KU leuven, and became a research assistant after having specialized in econometrics. Joined Fabrimetal in 1992, which turned into Agoria in 1999. Patrick will continue to be the liaison between LSEC and the Belgian ICT- sector federation Agoria, in order to continue to build joint activities, align interests and jointly develop the market for the Information Security Sector as part of the technology sector in Belgium.
  • Member of the Board : Dimension Data, represented by Stefaan Hinderyckx, Security Director Europe


    A graduate of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Stefaan has Masters degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science, and more than 15 years experience in IT security, specialized around managed security services, professional services and high-end security infrastructure solutions. Stefaan has held numerous senior, pan-European positions with organizations including Verizon, Symantec and Getronics. As Dimension Data’s Security Director, Europe one of Stefaan’s key focus areas is to translate security technology, people and process into tangible business value. This outcomes-focused approach puts his services in high demand among our strategic global clients, who look to unite the generic benefits of the technology with practical applications that adapt seamlessly for their individual operations and deliver a sophisticated security armory.
  • Member of the Board (independent director) : Carlo Schupp, partner Vinti-Q


    Carlo co-founded Vinti-Q, a high-end management advisory and engineering firm focused on information security and information-driven innovation. Prior to that, Carlo led Deloitte’s European practice of Security & Privacy. His clients typically seek for security assessments, business continuity planning, application audits, IT governance questions, computer forensics and incident response, and compliance reviews. Carlo has had a career managing business lines and new initiatives. He served twelve years at Swift as a leader in product and market management. He participated in The Way Forward programme to transform Swift from a passive institution to a commercial enterprise. He built Swift’s first data warehouse to analyse all daily financial transactions and helped transform Swift from a proprietary network to a service provider facing the security challenges of the internet. He conducted process audits and provided top-management consultancy to banks in the global top-100, etc. He also served five years at Ubizen (today Verizon Security Business Solutions) as CIO leading the managed security services. Carlo was part in founding LSEC together with K.U.Leuven-COSIC en K.U.Leuven LRD, from a clear need within Ubizen to position Leuven as a center of expertise on Information Security that is recognised worldwide. Upon his departure at Ubizen, Carlo had to resign as Member of the Board of LSEC but rejoined not so long after that as an independent Member of the Board. His objective remains to make LSEC a pole of attraction that promote our Belgian expertise on a national and international level and facilitates collaboration between members.
  • Member of the Board : Chris Van den Abbeele, Solution Manager, Atos Origin


    Chris Van Den Abbeele is Solution Manager for Identity and Security solutions at Atos Origin. He is responsible for defining and managing the Identity and Access Management offering at Atos Origin Belgium. Chris has over ten years experience in designing Identity and Access Management solutions. He has a clear view on the technology, the market and the players. Prior to joining Atos Origin, Chris worked as a Technology Specialist at Novell for about ten years. Chris brings to the table +10 years experience in Identity and Access Management. He knows the technology, the market, the players, their offerings, their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Member of the Board : Verizon Business - Cybertrust, represented by Fabrice Wynants, Security Solutions Team Manager


    Fabrice Wynants is currently leading the Verizon Business Security Solutions sales team in Belgium. In this position, he is responsible for developing Verizon Business' security practice in Belgium. Fabrice has over 14 years of experience in ICT Security and was involved in many complex customer projects , offering solutions such as Managed Security, Identity Management, Risk and Compliance Management. Fabrice started his career at Ubizen, a leading provider of Managed Security Services that was initially acquired by Cybertrust, only to be acquired again three years later by Verizon Business. Having served these companies in both technical and commercial positions , Fabrice truely has a broad view on both the national & international security market.

  • Member of the Board : Palo Alto Networks, represented by Rudi Wynen, Country Manager Benelux


    Rudi joined Palo Alto Networks in May 2010 and brings almost 10 years of industry experience to the company. As Country Manager, he has overall responsibility for driving the business in the Benelux region. Previously, Rudi held strategic sales roles at Juniper Networks, including responsibility for Global Finance Accounts that he helped growing in a very successful way. Prior to joining Juniper Networks in April of 2006, he spent over 3 years as a Key Account Manager for UUNET/Verizon Business. An internationally recognized sales manager on information security, Rudi has consulted and helped with 50+ large IT organizations and has spoken before a variety of audiences. As a result Rudi has a very close and intense contact with Senior Management of Industry Flagships. Before UUNET, Rudi managed teams specialized in Employee Benefits Insurances at Royale Belge. (now AXA) Rudi holds a Master in Physiotherapy from Antwerp University. Motivation : first of all to help and support LSEC to further grow. Secondly to better understand and connect with the academic world of IT security. And last but not least to promote and interconnect with the business Executives and to make sure that IT security becomes one of their top priorities that enables and rewards their business decisions.
  • Member of the Board : Belgacom Group, represented by Jean-Luc Delvaux, international security solutions manager


    Jean-Luc has been working for Telindus International since 2001 (acquired by Belgacom in 2006) where he has been responsible for the ICT Security Strategy and for the development of the Security business internationally. In this capacity, he is in charge of developing Telindus' security solutions and services portfolio as well as new market segments and geographies. Jean-Luc has more than 20 years of experience in the international ICT Services industry and close to 15 years more specifically in the Risk and Security domains. Prior to joining Telindus International, Jean-Luc has been active in various responsibility roles within Dimension Data, such as developing internationally the professional training business unit (NetBrain). Motivation : has shown and will continue to demonstrate its commitment to security and the LSEC organization in particular. As part of one of the most appreciated and largest security service providers in Belgium, Jean-Luc is proud to share his knowledge and expertise to be able to support LSEC in its mission. Belgacom’s access to and knowledge from different markets , from corporate to small and medium enterprises will benefit LSEC and its members, be them established companies or start-up companies. Jean-Luc, Belgacom and Telindus are keen to be part of this innovative Belgian consortium, leveraging Belgacom’s broad customer base and knowledge about the different vertical markets.
